Brief

The IELTS syllabus contains a total of four sections: Writing, Reading, Listening, and Speaking. For the two IELTS test types i.e. Academic and General Training, the reading and writing sections will be different while the listening and speaking sections will be similar for both test versions.

IELTS for UKVI General

This test is for test takers wishing to migrate to the UK and for those wishing to train or study below degree level.

IELTS Life Skills

This is the test to take if you are applying for the following types of UK visa: – Family visa – Extension to family, spouse or partner visa – Indefinite leave to remain or citizenship.

If you have taken an IELTS Life Skills test within the last 2 years and passed it, you should not take the exact same test.

IELTS Life Skills A1

This test is for those who need to prove their English speaking and listening skills as part of their application to UK Visas and Immigration for ‘family of a settled person’ visas.

IELTS Life Skills A2 (UK only)

This test is for those who need to prove their English speaking and listening skills as part of their application to UK Visas and Immigration for extension to Family, Spouse or Partner visa.

IELTS Life Skills B1

This test is for those who need to prove their English speaking and listening skills as part of their application to UK Visas and Immigration for indefinite leave to remain or citizenship.
